AN AMERICAN POLICE STATE TRAVESTY

As legitimate Presidential contenders they were attempting to enter the grounds of the presidential debate site at Hofstra University. Like other third-party candidates, Stein was blocked from participating in the debate by the Commission on Presidential Debates (Republicrats), which is controlled by the Republican and Democratic parties. The Green Party is on enough ballots in enough states that it is a mathematical possibility they could actually win the electoral vote. Stein and Honkala were held for eight hours, handcuffed to chairs. As she was being arrested, Stein condemned what she called "this mock debate, this mockery of democracy." Stein asked the university official why the Commission on Presidential Debates had refused to let them participate in the debate. She pointed out that both of them were on enough ballots across the country that they could theoretically win enough electoral college votes to win the presidency.
