Law Enforcement To Begin iPhone Iris Scans
(Reuters) - Dozens of police departments nationwide are gearing up to use iPhone's already controversial iris- and facial-scanning device that slides over an iPhone and helps identify a person.
Experts worry police may be randomly scanning the using potentially intrusive techniques. Constitutional rights advocates are concerned, because the device can accurately scan an individual's face from four feet away, without a person being aware of it. Its use has set off alarms with some who are concerned about civil liberties and privacy issues. Police officials say they want every cop in the nation to carry one of thes units and start scanning the entire population. Each unit costs about $3,000.
